Children. The Eisenhowers had two sons, Doud Dwight "Icky" Eisenhower, and John Eisenhower. He is the most recently serving U.S. president (as of 2024) to have had only sons. Dwight’s 3rd great-grandfather Hans Nicholas Eisenhauer and his 2nd great-grandfather Johann Peter immigrated to America in 1741 on the ship Europa. Like many German immigrants of the time, the Eisenhauer family settled in Pennsylvania.
They had a second son, John, in 1922. Like his father, he graduated from West Point and then spent two decades in the Army, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel. He served his father, the President, as a military aide and eventually became an accomplished military historian.

Currently there are 33 confirmed, known living presidential children, the oldest Lynda Bird Johnson Robb, the youngest Barron Trump. Two presidential children, John Quincy Adams and George W. Bush, have become president in their own right. Presidential children have been studied individually and as a class.
