Princess of Great Britain. Under the Act of Settlement 1701, Princess Amelia's grandfather became King of Great Britain on August 1, 1714 following the death of Queen Anne. Amelia's father became Duke of Cornwall, and was created Prince of Wales on September 27, 1714. Amelia became Her Royal Highness Princess Amelia Sophia of Wales.
Amelia was christened at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace by John Moore, Archbishop of Canterbury, on 17 September 1783. Her godparents were the Prince of Wales (Amelia's eldest brother), the Princess Royal (her eldest sister), and the Princess Augusta Sophia (her second eldest sister). She was the fifteenth sibling christened there.
