The Radcliffe Camera (colloquially known as the " Rad Cam " or " The Camera "; from Latin camera, meaning 'room') is a building of the University of Oxford, England, designed by James Gibbs in a Baroque style and built in 1737–49 to house the Radcliffe Science Library.

About the library. The Radcliffe Camera is an iconic Oxford landmark and a working library, part of the central Bodleian Library complex. It is linked to the Bodleian Old Library by the underground Gladstone Link. The Radcliffe Camera is home to the History Faculty Library (HFL).

Beautiful as the rest of the structure is, it’s the phenomenal dome (the third largest in the UK) that makes the Rad Cam so instantly recognisable in any photo.
Upon its completion, the Radcliffe Camera became a central hub for academic research and study at Oxford University. Initially, the library housed books spanning various subjects, but later, under the leadership of George Williams, it narrowed its focus to the sciences.
