Randolph Caldecott (/ ˈ k ɔː l d ə k ɒ t / KAWL-də-kot; 22 March 1846 – 12 February 1886) was a British artist and illustrator, born in Chester. The Caldecott Medal was named in his honour. He exercised his art chiefly in book illustrations.

This hobby proved useful as he made many sketches of hunting scenes and the local scenery in that part of Cheshire which he would later incorporate into his illustrations. In 1861, the same year that Caldecott left school, his first drawing was published in Illustrated London News .
