15 de abr. de 2024 · Robert Walpole, 1st earl of Orford (born August 26, 1676, Houghton Hall, Norfolk, England—died March 18, 1745, London) was a British statesman (in power 1721–42), generally regarded as the first British prime minister. He deliberately cultivated a frank, hearty manner, but his political subtlety has scarcely been equaled.

1 de may. de 2024 · Sir Robert Walpole was the first and longest-serving Prime Minister of Great Britain, serving under the first two Hanoverian Kings George. He was born on Aug. 26, 1676, in Houghton, Norfolk. His parents, Robert and Mary, had 19 children.
15 de abr. de 2024 · On his return to England in 1741, Walpole entered Parliament, where his career was undistinguished, although he attended debates regularly until 1768. In 1791 he inherited the peerage from a nephew, a grandson of Robert Walpole. He remained unmarried, and on his death the earldom became extinct.

24 de abr. de 2024 · Kent, on the other hand, was involved in the design of the Houghton interiors from 1725, and since his subsequent choice of Gothic at Hampton Court is said to have been instigated by Sir Robert Walpole, it seems logical to assume that the same client may have prompted him to design this Gothic exercise on his own estate.
