The House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha-Koháry is a Catholic cadet branch of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. It was founded with the marriage of Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha , second son of Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld , with Princess Maria Antonia Koháry de Csábrág .

The name Saxe-Coburg-Gotha came into the British Royal Family in 1840 with the marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert, son of Ernst, Duke of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha. Queen Victoria herself was the last monarch of the House of Hanover. The House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha as a British dynasty was short-lived.

Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (German: Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha), or Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (German: Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha [ˈzaksn̩ ˈkoːbʊʁk ˈɡoːtaː]), was an Ernestine, Thuringian duchy ruled by a branch of the House of Wettin, consisting of territories in the present-day states of Thuringia and Bavaria in Germany.
The Royal House of Saxe Coburg Gotha was originally a German house. It was descended from the male line of the Ernestine Branch of the Wettin family tree , German Prince-Electors of Saxony. Members of the House occupied the thrones of a number of European countries, including Belgium, Portugal and Bulgaria.
