The House of Wettin ( German: Haus Wettin) was a dynasty of German kings, prince-electors, dukes, and counts that once ruled territories in the present-day German states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. The dynasty is one of the oldest in Europe, and its origins can be traced back to the town of Wettin, Saxony-Anhalt.

Founded in 1826 by Ernest Anton, the sixth duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld, it is a cadet branch of the Saxon House of Wettin. One agnatic branch currently reigns in Belgium —the descendants of Leopold I —and another reigned until the death of Elizabeth II in the United Kingdom —the descendants of Albert, Prince Consort .

For much of the 18th century, the Wettin dynasty also reigned as Kings of Poland, and during the Napoleonic period as Duke of Warsaw.
Born at Wantage, Berkshire, in 849, Alfred was the fifth son of Aethelwulf, king of the West Saxons.
