  2. Lord Elphinstone is a title in the Peerage of Scotland created by King James IV in 1510. History. The title of Lord Elphinstone was granted by King James IV in 1510 to Sir Alexander Elphinstone of Elphinstone, who was killed at the Battle of Flodden three years later.

  3. John Elphinstone, also known as John Elphinston (1722 – 28 February 1785), was a senior British naval officer who worked closely with the Russian Navy after 1770, with approval from the Admiralty, during the period of naval reform under Russian Empress Catherine II.

  5. Sir John Elphinstone of that ilk and of Pittendreich, son of James, was the father of the 1st Lord. He died circa 1508. In 1491, he exchanged the Pittendreich lands for nearby land. In 1497 he obtained a charter for the barony of Airth, "with tenants and tenandries". This (if I'm reading it correctly) is what became the barony of Elphinstone.

  6. Sir JOHN de ELPHINSTONE, who is the first we find designed dominus ejusdem. * He was proprietor of several other baronies besides that of Elphinstone, for he is found swearing fealty to king Edward I. for lands lying in different counties, anno 1296.
