September is a 1987 drama film written and directed by Woody Allen. The film is modeled on Anton Chekhov 's 1899 play Uncle Vanya, though the gender roles are often subverted. [2] Allen's intention for September was that it be like "a play on film," hence the great number of long takes and few camera effects.
The book says Stephanie disliked Allen, that she accepted many luncheon invitations from him, and that Mia would later discover Allen kept photos of Stephanie in his apartment. Stephanie played supporting roles, as the sister of characters played by her older sister, actor Mia Farrow, in the films, Zelig (1983) and The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985).
