We might think of Arthur Kennedy in Anthony Mann’s Bend of the River (1952), or Burt Lancaster in Robert Aldrich’s Vera Cruz (1954), or, contemporary with The Tall T, Glenn Ford’s masterly Ben Wade in 3:10 to Yuma (1957).
