Tommy Dorsey. Thomas Francis Dorsey Jr. (November 19, 1905 – November 26, 1956) was an American jazz trombonist, composer, conductor and bandleader of the big band era. He was known as the "Sentimental Gentleman of Swing" because of his smooth-toned trombone playing. His theme song was "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You".
Personal. Tommy Dorsey married Mildred Kraft in 1922. He was just 17 at the time. The couple had two children, a son, and a daughter. They divorced in 1943. In 1943, Tommy Dorsey married Pat Dane, an actress, but they divorced in 1947. Dorsey’s third marriage was to Jane New, a dancer, in 1948.

Biography: Tommy Dorsey was born November 27, 1905, to Thomas Frances Dorsey and Theresa Langton; he grew up in an Irish mining community in Schuylkill County. Thomas Dorsey was a self-taught musician and part-time music teacher. He taught both his boys music at a very early age. Dorsey played the cornet and later learned the trombone.
