27 de jul. de 2018 · Guitarist Carmen Mastren, who was with the Dorsey band for several years in the late 1930s, and who helped out with arranging, was a member of Tommy’s band when these recordings were made. He told Herb Sanford, who wrote a book about the Dorsey brothers in the early 1970s: “The only thing Bunny did on that date (January 29, 1937) was play choruses on ‘Marie’ and ‘Song of India.’”

Biography: Tommy Dorsey was born November 27, 1905, to Thomas Frances Dorsey and Theresa Langton; he grew up in an Irish mining community in Schuylkill County. Thomas Dorsey was a self-taught musician and part-time music teacher. He taught both his boys music at a very early age. Dorsey played the cornet and later learned the trombone.
Thomas A. Dorsey, often called the Father of Gospel Music, migrated from Atlanta to Chicago as a young man, thus exemplifying the experience of many southern blacks of his day. This journey is also critical to an understanding of what Michael W.
