It is famous worldwide for its outstanding collections of ancient sculptures and paintings (from the Middle Ages to the Modern period).

Pocos saben que el monumental complejo de los Uffizi no fue creado para ser un museo. Es propio su nombre lo que explica su destino original: fue de hecho ordenado en 1560 por Cosimo I de’ Medici, primer Gran Duque de Toscana, para dar la bienvenida a las oficinas administrativas y judiciarias de Florencia, los “Oficios” (“Uffizi” en italiano).
