  5. History. The University of Maryland, Baltimore was founded in 1807 as the Maryland College of Medicine. In 1812, it was rechartered as the University of Maryland and given the authority to establish additional faculties in law, divinity, and arts and sciences. The faculty of law was founded in 1816, though it operated intermittently until 1868.

  6. Founded as the Maryland Agricultural College, the campus was established on land from founder C. B. Calvert’s Riversdale holdings. In 1865 the college became Marylands land-grant educational institution and after 1887 included the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station, which was housed at the Rossborough Inn.
