The Vierdaagse (pronounced [ˌviːrˈdaːxsə], lit. ' four days event ') is an annual walk that has taken place since 1909. Based at Nijmegen since 1925, it now takes place in the third week of July. In 2016 it celebrated the 100th edition (reflecting that the marches were curtailed during the two world wars).

Every year, the City of Nijmegen, Stichting Vierdaagsefeesten and Stichting DE 4DAAGSE welcome the participants to the city with a spectacular fireworks display. The opening ceremony ‘Waal in Vlammen’ takes place on the Sunday evening before the 4Days Marches.

The Nijmegen Four Days Marches, or 'The Walk of the World', is the largest multi-day walking event in the world in which 47,000 walkers take part every year. They come to Nijmegen from all over the world to walk for four days in Nijmegen and its beautiful surroundings.
