Ein Ulrich von Blücher wird 1256 als Bischof von Ratzeburg, 1291 werden Hermann von Blücher und 1356 Wipert von Blücher als Bischöfe von Ratzeburg genannt. Ab 1293 werden die Blüchers auch als Grundbesitzer in Pommern bekannt (u. a. 1577–1731 mit einem Anteil von Plathe ).
Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher was born in Rostock in the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, a Baltic port in northern Germany. His family had been landowners in northern Germany since at least the 13th century. He began his military career at sixteen, when he joined the Swedish Army as a Hussar.
His father Christian Friedrich von Blücher (1696–1761), was a retired army captain, and his family belonged to the nobility and had been landowners in northern Germany since at least the 13th century.

The von Blücher brothers (German: Gebrüder von Blücher) were three German brothers and paratroopers of the Luftwaffe who were killed in combat within hours of each other on 21 May 1941 during the Battle of Crete.

Familie Gedenktafel auf dem Gutsfriedhof Beetzendorf mit Erinnerung an seine Frau (rechts unten) Joachim von Blücher gehörte dem Adelsgeschlecht Blücher an. Seine Eltern waren Gebhard von Blücher (1856–1892) und Helene, geb. Oerthling (1863–1893). Im Alter von 5 Jahren wurde er Waise.
