Her husband was James I, the son of Mary Queen of Scots, and they were coronated after the death of the beloved Queen Elizabeth I. So in the first place, it was a tough act to follow.

Anne of Denmark. Anne of Denmark (12 December 1574 – 2 March 1619) was queen consort of Scotland, England, and Ireland. She was the wife of King James VI and I. [1] Anne, the second daughter of King Frederick II of Denmark, married James in 1589 when she was 15 years old. She gave birth to seven children but only three lived to become adults.

Hace 1 día · Anne died at Hampton Court Palace in 1619 and James I died in March 1625, aged 58. Towards the end of his life, James was known as a slobberer and semi-incoherent speaker – his tongue was too big for his mouth. He was also known as the ‘wisest fool in Christendom’, but he was far wilier than his ‘fool’ tag suggests.
The make-up used could not be quickly removed, so a metamorphosis from black to white was not staged. Anne of Denmark's apothecary John Wolfgang Rumler is known to have devised a more easily removeable blackface make-up for a masque in 1621, The Gypsies Metamorphosed. The masque was expensive, costing £3000.
