Improvisation XIV. 1910. Two knights confront each other in a stylised forest announcing the shift to abstraction. ln the paintings here entitled "Improvisations", Wassily Kandinsky summons up images tram his imagination, as in this scene which he prepared in a drawing that belongs ta the Museum, in which we can make out two knights and a tree.

Improvisation 27, composed of dark lines and colorful abstract masses, features three iterations of an embracing couple surrounded by serpentine forms. Kandinsky hints at the painting’s possible subject in the subtitle, Garden of Love II, likely a reference to biblical Eden. Listen.
Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky [a] (16 December [ O.S. 4 December] 1866 – 13 December 1944) was a Russian painter and art theorist. Kandinsky is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction in western art. Born in Moscow, he spent his childhood in Odessa, where he graduated from Odessa Art School.
Improvisation, 27 by Wassily Kandinsky. In addition to painting, Kandinsky was an art theorist; his influence on the history of Western art stems perhaps more from his theoretical works than from his paintings. He helped found the Munich New Artists' Association, becoming its president in 1909.
