Classical liberalism is a political tradition and a branch of liberalism that advocates free market and laissez-faire economics and civil liberties under the rule of law, with special emphasis on individual autonomy, limited government, economic freedom, political freedom and freedom of speech. [1]
Liberalism is a largely individual-centred political theory that places the individual, as opposed to the collective, at the heart and soul of politics. This makes sense when viewing liberalism's relationship with the notion of natural rights, or the idea that human beings have rights simply by virtue of being born.

The Puritans were staunch defenders of Protestantism – they advocated for a Protestant outlook and sought to purge the Church of England of its Catholic influences. By the 1640s, the Puritans had become a significant political force in England.
On the domestic front, after eight years of the Reagan administration and a presi dential campaign in which liberalism became "the L-word," they seem to be bad times indeed. The same can be said of Margaret Thatcher's Britain. But elsewhere, especially in the Communist world, events and regimes seem to be moving in a liberal direc tion.
Liberalism’s emphasis on personal freedom contrasts with traditional conservatism, which supports a strong, if not authoritarian, state that enforces one or more religions, as well as customary norms regarding the family, sexual morality, the subordinate role of women, and traditional values of community.
