William Pitt the Younger was born on 28 May 1759 at Hayes near Bromley in Kent: that year was also the Anno Mirabilis of the Seven Years' War being conducted by his father, Pitt the Elder. The younger Pitt was the second son and fourth of five children born to William Pitt (the Elder) and his wife Hester Grenville.
