William Clark Styron Jr. (June 11, 1925 – November 1, 2006) was an American novelist and essayist who won major literary awards for his work. [1] Early life. Styron was born in the Hilton Village historic district [2] of Newport News, Virginia, the son of Pauline Margaret (Abraham) and William Clark Styron. [3] .

William Styron (1925-2006) was one of the most prominent and successful novelists of his generation. He was the author of four full-length novels: Lie Down in Darkness (1951), Set This House on Fire (1960), The Confessions of Nat Turner (1967), and Sophie’s Choice (1979)—and of a short novel, The Long March (1952).
