As both a rifle and a handgun caliber, the cartridge soon became widely popular, so much so that the Winchester Model 1873 rifle became known as "The gun that won the West."
Restoring Iconic Winchester 1873 lever action rifle, (with test fire). The gun that won the west! Winchester 1873 born on 1891. Chambered in 38-40. Really enjoyed the challenge this restoration has with the fore end being broken and the nature or getting the barrel off etc…. All in all it was a great job and very happy with the finished product.

Hace 2 días · Mechanically functions fine. Receiver has been cleaned bright. Remaining metal has mostly plum brown patina. 24” octagonal barrel has a good, mostly bright, bore with strong rifling and some pitting. Stock shows some wear, handling marks, and finish loss. Forend fit has some play. A decent example of an antique Winchester Model 1873.
