OP • 3 min. ago. While his mentoring of Gorbachev would prove disastrous, I have a great admiration of Andropov. He recognized the USSR still had issues; he supported the idea of more younguns in the party, and he was an active General Secretary in working for deescalation with the west to avoid armed conflicts and nuclear war.
