Sigismund III Vasa ( Polish: Zygmunt III Waza, Lithuanian: Žygimantas Vaza; 20 June 1566 – 30 April 1632 N.S.) was King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania from 1587 to 1632 and, as Sigismund, King of Sweden and Grand Duke of Finland from 1592 to 1599. He was the first Polish sovereign from the House of Vasa.

Charakterystyka postaci. Zygmunt III Waza był wszechstronnie wykształcony, biegle władał pięcioma językami, w tym językiem polskim. Przyszły król już za młodu był człowiekiem ogromnie poważnym i pełnym monarszej godności, stronił od biesiad. Zygmunt III Waza odznaczał się pracowitością, pobożnością oraz wewnętrzną dyscypliną.

Zygmunt III Waza (ur. 20 czerwca 1566, zm. 30 kwietnia 1632) – król Polski i wielki książę litewski od 1587 roku, król Szwecji od 1594 (zdetronizowany pięć lat później, nigdy nie zaprzestał używania tytułu). Należał do szwedzkiej dynastii Wazów. Jego matką była jednak jedna z ostatnich Jagiellonek – córka Bony Sforzy i Zygmunta Starego, Katarzyna.

The column and statue commemorate King Sigismund III Vasa, who in 1596 had moved Poland's capital from Kraków to Warsaw. On the Corinthian column which used to be of red marble and is 8.5 m (28 ft) tall, a sculpture of the King, 2.75 m (9 ft) tall, in archaistic armour is placed. [2] .
