Well is a small village and civil parish in the former Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. It is about 4 miles south of Bedale, near Snape. The village is situated at the edge of a limestone escarpment that overlooks the Vale of Mowbray. The population recorded by the 2011 Census was 230.

17 de mar. de 2024 · "WELL, a parish in the wapentake of Hang East, and liberty of Richmondshire; 4 miles S. of Bedale. This village is said to derive its name from a famous well dedicated to St. Michael, which is supplied by a spring issuing from a rock, and which flows invariably at all seasons of the year.
A petrifying well is a well or other body of water which gives objects a stone-like appearance. If an object is placed into such a well and left there for a period of months or years, the object acquires a stony exterior.
