He stayed in the family tradition a supporter of the Whigs in government, and was named Lord Lieutenant (or viceroy) of Ireland, briefly, during the ministry of Lord Rockingham in 1782.

Bentinck, William Henry Cavendish (1738–1809), 3rd duke of Portland , viceroy of Ireland, was born 14 April 1738 at Bulstrode, Buckinghamshire, eldest son of William, 2nd duke of Portland, and his wife Lady Margaret Cavendish Harley. Educated at Westminster and Christ Church, Oxford, he graduated MA (1757).

  4. 2 de sept. de 2015 · William Bentinck was the youngest son of the second Duke of Portland, and was born on 14 April 1738. He attended Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford (where he informally added ‘Cavendish’ to his surname) before undertaking a 'Grand Tour' of Europe, during the latter stages of which he was elected MP for Weobley, Herefordshire, through his family’s interests.

  5. Portland was born William Henry, Lord Titchfield in April 1738 into an aristocratic family at Bulstrode Park in Buckinghamshire. He was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. He was briefly MP for the seat of Weobley in 1761 but was elevated to the House of Lords upon the death of his father the following year.

  7. Lord Henry Cavendish-Bentinck (28 May 1863 – 6 October 1931), known as Henry Cavendish-Bentinck until 1880, was a British Conservative politician. Biography [ edit ] Cavendish-Bentinck was the eldest son of Lieutenant-General Arthur Cavendish-Bentinck from his second marriage to Augusta Mary Elizabeth, 1st Baroness Bolsover.
