26 de abr. de 2024 · Norborne Berkeley, 4th Baron de Botetourt (c1717-1770) The county was named after Norborne Berkeley, 4th Baron de Botetourt (c1717-1770). Berkeley, formerly a Member of British Parliament, served as Virginia's Royal Governor at the time of Botetourt County's organization.

Their son Norborne Berkeley recovered the ancient barony of Botetourt, then in abeyance, but died without surviving issue in 1770. (fn. 76) He was succeeded by his sister Elizabeth, who was the widow of Charles Noel Somerset, Duke of Beaufort (d. 1756).
