John Szarkowski (Ashland , 18 de diciembre de 1925 - Pittsfield (Massachusetts), 7 de julio de 2007) fue un fotógrafo, conservador, historiador y crítico de arte estadounidense. Entre 1962 y 1991 fue director de fotografía del Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York .

Conservador estadounidense de museos, fotohistoriador, escritor y fotógrafo. Nació el 18 de diciembre de 1925 en Wisconsin. Cursó estudios en la Universidad de esta ciudad donde se licenció en 1948. De 1948 a 1951, trabaja como fotógrafo en el centro de arte Walker de Minneapolis.
