Hearing Wagner conduct in 1849, then attending the premiere of Lohengrin under Liszt in 1850, led him to abandon a career in law: he went to Zürich to become a disciple of Wagner, and gained some conducting experience there before studying with Liszt (whom he greatly impressed) in order to become a concert pianist.
Hace 1 día · The conductor of this premiere was Hans von Bülow, whose wife, Cosima, had given birth in April that year to a daughter, named Isolde, a child not of Bülow but of Wagner. Cosima was 24 years younger than Wagner and was herself illegitimate, the daughter of the Countess Marie d'Agoult, who had left her husband for Franz Liszt.
