Robert Carr, 1st Earl of Somerset (sometimes spelt Ker) (c. 1590-1645), was a Scottish politician, and favourite of King James I of England. He was born the younger son of Sir Thomas Ker of Ferniehurst by his second wife, Janet, sister of Sir Walter Scott of Buccleuch.
She had also fallen in love with Robert Carr, 1st Earl of Somerset. When she finally took the step of annulment, unable to legally represent herself, her father and her uncle, Henry Howard, Earl of Northampton , represented her and drew up the libel.
