Hace 4 días · When Hartington commons were inclosed in 1798, the late Earl Beauchamp, then William Lygon, Esq., being impropriator of the great tithes had an allotment in lieu of them, which allotment he afterwards sold to Sir Hugh Bateman, Bart. In right of the rectorial estate Sir Hugh is patron of the Deanery of Hartington.

He was a member of a minor branch of the greater de Beauchamp family who were the lords of Bedford, identified as a knight of Simon de Beauchamp.
