Leo X's consistory of 1 July 1517 saw 31 cardinals created, and this remained the largest allocation of cardinals in one consistory until Pope John Paul II named 42 cardinals in 2001. Canonizations. 16 de dic. de 2023 · Entre el 3 y el 4 marzo de 1513, casi dos semanas después de la muerte de Julio II, llegaron a Roma los cardenales que debían elegir a su sucesor en el trono de san Pedro. Se presentaron veinticinco de los treinta y uno posibles; entre las ausencias destacaba el terrible cardenal español Ximénez de Cisneros.
He was named a cardinal in 1492, and in 1494 he was exiled from Florence by the revolt of Girolamo Savonarola. He returned in 1500 and soon consolidated Medici control of the city. As pope, he became a patron of the arts and accelerated construction of St. Peter’s Basilica.
