  3. Eddie Jefferson (August 3, 1918 – May 9, 1979) was an American jazz vocalist and lyricist. He is credited as an innovator of vocalese, a musical style in which lyrics are set to an instrumental composition or solo. Jefferson himself claims that his main influence was Leo Watson.

  5. Jefferson was one of the founders of vocalese or the Godfather of Vocalese since the 1940s. However, other jazz vocalists were more successful with the words Jefferson wrote for the melodies of improvised solos. Bad luck accompanied him till his death, when he was murdered outside a Detroit nightclub.
