Johann Tobias Mayer ( Gotinga, Alemania, 5 de mayo de 1752 — Gotinga, 30 de noviembre de 1830) fue un matemático, físico y astrónomo alemán, hijo del astrónomo y físico Tobias Mayer. Biografía. Era el hijo primogénito de Tobias Mayer (1723–1762) y Maria Victoria, de soltera Gnüg (1723–1780).

Johann Tobias Mayer (5 May 1752 – 30 November 1830) was a German physicist . Personal and professional life. Mayer, born in Göttingen, was the first child of the astronomer Tobias Mayer and his wife Maria. The elder Mayer, a well-known Göttingen professor of geography, physics, and astronomy, died in 1762, when Johann was only ten.

Mayer also discovered the libration (or apparent wobbling) of the Moon.
