Dorset covers an area of 2,653 square kilometres (1,024 sq mi) and contains considerable variety in its underlying geology, which is partly responsible for the diversity of landscape. A large percentage (66%) of the county comprises either chalk, clay or mixed sand and gravels.

Dorchester (/ˈdɔːrtʃɛstər/ DOR-ches-tər) es un ciudad localizada al sur de Inglaterra, capital del condado de Dorset. Se encuentra situada a orillas del río Frome, en el cruce de la carreteras A35 y A37, a 35 km al oeste de Poole y 13 km al norte de Weymouth.
Dorset is a largely rural county; the county's largest and only major urban area is the South East Dorset conurbation, based on the towns of Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch, with a combined population of around 400,000. The population of the county overall is 714,900.
