Hugh Vaughan was an English Member of Parliament during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. He was The Earl of Bedford's steward in the west of England, and entered parliament at a by-election for Bridport in 1581 as the Earl's nominee to replace his heir, Lord Russell , who had been summoned to sit in the House of Lords .
In August 1532 he replaced Sir Hugh Vaughan at the castle of Mont Orgueil as captain and governor of Jersey. It has been suggested that when Sir Anthony was granted the reversion of the governorship of Jersey, in 1525, following the treaty of the More, that this was allegedly at the insistence of Anne Boleyn and that this represented ...

Vaughan was a Welshman of low birth who became a close friend of the future King Henry VII while he was in exile. He was appointed Gentleman Usher and Esquire of the Body to the King, Lieutenant of the Tower, Captain of the King's Guard, Bailiff of Westminster, Privy Councillor and Governor of Jersey, an office he held from 1502-1531.
