According to legend, the abducted human children are given to the devil or used to strengthen fairy stock. The return of the original child may be effected.

Description. The changeling is a creature that is found in folklore throughout Europe. It is said to be a human-like fairy that is left in place of a human baby that is stolen by fairies.
